The city is surrounded by several beautiful mountains, most of them being sharp peaks (see the pictures). The city pulses with life. The people are very nice and friendly. We checked-in in a small hostel with a familiar atmosphere. There are many tourists from all around the world, but you don’t feel like being in a tourist place, the streets are not crowded with tourists like in Chamonix, you almost don’t see them, they disappear in a crowd of Peruvians. On every corner is a travel agency offering guide services, luggage carrying services and even complete expeditions.

We stayed only for one night and today we are moving ahead, about 20 kilometers further to a < ?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />village of Vicos, where we should stay at a family place of a cook whom we met by chance in Lima. The people here are really hospitable. From Vicos village we will do our first ascends. First we will ascend Viscon mountain (approx. 53000 meters above sea level) to get a skiing training, and then we will try to ski mountain Copa (approx. 6200 meters above sea level). After that we would like to ski the traverse of Hualcan mountain, but first we have to check what the local skiing conditions are.

Anyway, we are really looking forward to click in the binding and entering the virgin powder 😉 By now my mouth waters 😀 The next few days we won’t have an internet access, so we will report at the beginning of next week, and we will try to upload some fantastic pictures as well.

Hasta luego, amigos 😉
